Audi, Bleacher Report and MLS kick off Academy Season 2 with New York Red Bulls MLS Academy
THE ACADEMY offers a comprehensive overview of the commitments and raw talent of young athletes as they fulfill their dreams of becoming professional soccer players. Highlight the young talent development system used by each MLS Youth Academy in North America, the series gives fans a first-hand account of the best players who join an MLS club as young as 12, and with hard work and determination, rise through the ranks to play professionally in MLS and the foreign. These unique stories show how the Audi and MLS youth academies are working to ensure this next generation of athletes is ready to compete at an elite level.
Following last season’s focus on the Sporting KC Youth Academy in Kansas City, the second season will take a closer look at one of the most followed and high-profile clubs in North America, highlighting the often intense and competitive challenges necessary for talent development.
Some of the prominent New York Red Bulls personalities featured this coming season include New York Red Bulls head coach Gerhard Struber, Director of the academy Sean mccafferty, Academy Coach Samuel Castellanos, star academy products like Tyler adams and Sean davis, with Academy players Austin brummett, Sam joseph, Serge Ngoma, and Nicolas rabiu.
In addition to THE ACADEMY, Audi is also funding the Audi Goals Drive Progress program to help make MLS academies more accessible and inclusive for young players of all backgrounds, wherever they are. North America. The purpose of this program is to help remove barriers that would otherwise hinder reach and success, such as limited access to transportation and housing in MLS markets. These funds also support the training of players to ensure their success off the pitch.
From April 2021, Audi has committed more than $ 2 million to MLS academies across North America to create a better future through football, and the impact of that funding has been immediate – since March 2020, sixteen MLS Academy players who benefited from the program were signed with the first-team, professional Homegrown contracts. In addition, more than 130 players have benefited from increased housing options near MLS academies, and more than 1,600 players are using extensive educational resources, including tutoring and an improved educational infrastructure known as Audi Performance Centers.
