Secondary suite law gets little support at hearing

Beacon City Council said last week it would continue to review proposed changes to simplify the process for creating accessory dwelling unit (ADU) apartments in single-family residential areas.

Council, which has been discussing the proposal for a year, heard from four residents at a public hearing on August 15 who argued it would do little to provide affordable housing. Council member Dan Aymar-Blair said he agrees and the city should add a price scale to ensure all new rental units are affordable.
