Emirates News Agency – UAE holds first meeting chaired by Zaki Nusseibeh
AL AIN, April 27, 2021 (WAM) – The Council of the University of the United Arab Emirates (UAEU) held its first meeting, under the leadership of its President, Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the chancellor of the university.
The meeting began with Nusseibeh offering his thanks and appreciation to the former chancellor of the university, Saeed Ahmed Ghobash, for his efforts to advance the organizational structure and process of the university, ready to achieve its academic goals. .
Nusseibeh also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Council members and noted that they all left a precious legacy on which the new Council will build.
Welcoming the new members of the Council, he said: “I am honored and happy to meet you today under exceptional circumstances, and I express my deep gratitude on behalf of the University of the United Arab Emirates. thank you for joining us on the UAEU Council to help us achieve the ambitious goals we have set for the development of the university. ”
The new members of the university council are, Mariam bint Mohammed Al Mheiri, Minister of State for Food and Water Security; Saeed Al Bahri Salem Al Ameri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Agriculture and Food Security; Tariq Abdul Qadir bin Hindi, Managing Director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Bureau; Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Government Media Office; Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority; Saeed Rashid Al Yateem, Assistant Under-Secretary for Resources and Fiscal Affairs at the Ministry of Finance; Faisal Abdulaziz Al-Bannai, CEO / Managing Director, EDGE Group; Tayba Abdul Rahim Al Hashemi / CEO of ADNOC Sour Gas; The Rt. The Hon. The board appointed Mariam bint Mohammed Al Mheiri, Minister of State for Food and Water Security, Vice-President of the Board, and established the composition of the standing committees, the audit and risk committee and the academic affairs committee. .
Members of the Audit and Risk Committee include Tariq Bin Hindi, as Chairman, Saeed Al Bahri Al Ameri, Amna Al Shammari and Henry Stover.
Members of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee include Abdulla Al-Karam, as chair, Professor Baron Peter Piot and Dr Elizabeth Simons. Lord Ajay Kakkar will join the Committee during the next academic year.
At the first meeting, the board discussed the leadership and position of the university in the region and internationally, regarding its strategic plan. The board received a report on the achievements of the university in the academic year 2020-2021, which detailed the academic performance indicators, research performance indicators and national and international rankings of the university according to the Times Higher Education.
The board took note of the forthcoming initiatives which should enable the university to develop advanced academic programs that meet the needs of the labor market and activities which will strengthen the identity of the university as a “University of the future”. .
The UAEU is the country’s flagship research-intensive university. It was established in 1976 by decree of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It has nearly 13,000 undergraduate students from the United Arab Emirates and around the world. It offers a full range of high-level and accredited undergraduate and graduate programs delivered by its nine colleges: Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Food and Agriculture, Humanities and Social Sciences, Information Technology, Law. , medicine and health sciences, and science.
