Families in Dandenong Ranges can take part in a children’s book-making workshop during school holidays, with artists from Kids Own Publishing helping participants create their own book using collages.

In partnership with Mums of the Hills and Rescue Logs and Kids Own Publishing, the Yarra Ranges Council will host the workshop on Saturday, September 17 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at Olinda Hall.

“This workshop is part of a series of programs for children, young people and families run by the Yarra Ranges Council in partnership with local community groups and funded by a Victorian Government Storm Recovery Grant,” said said Yarra Ranges Council Acting Director of Communities Ben dit Waterhouse.

“We are working with a community steering group made up of local parents to organize a creative book-making workshop for children.

The workshop will be facilitated by Kids Own Publishing, a nonprofit arts organization that publishes children’s books for children.

After leading the group of four workshops, Kids Own Publishing will eventually publish a book using the collages to share with the community.

“It will give kids of all ages the opportunity to socialize, be creative and have fun, while meeting new people in their community,” Waterhouse said.

“We can’t wait to see what our creative young members of the community create in these workshops.”

Registration for the workshop is recommended to ensure adequate equipment.

Children must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
