KALA KUMBH ARTIST WORKSHOP ORGANIZED BY THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF MODERN ARTS

The National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi celebrates Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav with Kala Kumbh– artist workshops to paint scrolls depicting the lives and heroic struggles of unsung heroes of India’s freedom movement, as part of the Republic Day 2022 celebrations in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense. The workshop is organized from 10e – 17e December 2021 in Bhubaneswar to creatively present the legacy of India’s freedom struggle and our national pride on five seventy-five meter rolls. Similar workshops will also be organized in other regions of the country.

Kala Kumbh The workshop intends to showcase our rich cultural heritage of indigenous and contemporary visual art practices, focusing on various geographic locations in India. Inspiration will also be drawn from the creative illustrations of the Constitution of India in which the artistic elements painted by Nandalal Bose and his team gave a distinctive appeal. It will be an embodiment of the progressive aspects of the socio-cultural, political and economic identity of India, represented on the rolls according to the artistic vision of Sri Adwait Garanayak, Managing Director of NGMA.

While the entire program is focused on a collaborative effort, the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi has partnered with Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology and Silicon Institute of Technology in Bhubaneswar for this artist studio. The narratives would reflect the valuable narratives of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bengal, North East India and Andhra Pradesh with artistic expressions reflecting indigenous art forms such as Pattachitra, Talapatra chitra, Manjusa, Madhubani and Jadupatua to name but a few. some. As NGMA, New Delhi takes these workshops to other parts of the country, many other forms of indigenous art will be woven into the stories of the unsung heroes of India’s freedom movement as a worthy artistic tribute to their struggles.
