The governor said his government is focused on young people, adding that many of his programs are aimed at empowering them.

“Indeed, the objective of this government is the commitment of young people. This is why we are investing heavily in the education sector to be able to capture them young.

“Although we are facing funding challenges due to dwindling resources, we still believe in human capital development, which includes caring for young people and their future.

“After paying the salaries, which are our front line expenses, there really isn’t much left but we are doing very well.

“We pushed the agenda and youth inclusion even in the upcoming elections in the state. Our primaries have just ended.

The governor noted that a 26-year-old man was running for the State House of Assembly seat.

He said the state government was also pushing the gender parity agenda by passing a bill guaranteeing the employment and appointment of 35% women.

According to him, the beneficiaries of employment are mostly young people.

He added that many young people were seeking public office, as evidenced by the increase in the number of women and young people running for elective office.

“We are really happy to have you this morning at Government House. The YES program you mentioned is a welcome development.

“This is a program that will spark young people’s interest in political participation, business, community service and all spheres of life.

“We have great youth engagement here in Kwara, including at cabinet level. Just last week, we also hosted a youth fair where young people showcased their marketing and business talents.

“It was a successful event, which was the second under us. And some of those who attended the first event were able to get NAFDAC registration for their products, and they are doing well,” he said.

The governor said there is a need to lead the young people and make them confident in themselves so they can achieve and know that the space is there for them to fulfill their destiny.

He appreciated the cleric and his entourage during the state visit and assured them of the government’s hospitality throughout their stay, saying the government fully supports the YES program.

Speaking earlier, Kumuyi said he had traveled to the state to seek government support for the ministry’s YES program which was preparing in Kwara.

He said the initiative was inspired by some of his recent engagements with young people outside Nigeria.

“My mission is to involve young people, not just young Christians or young Muslims.

“I want to open the eyes of young people and show them who they can be and what they can be, and refocus them.

“If Your Excellency could come and address the people as Governor of the State, that would be appreciated. I want to carry your voice to the rest of the world.

“Speak to them, redirect their minds positively and give them a vision so that in our time, the young people to whom we hand over will have something concrete from us and be confident when we hand over to them.

“So I invite the government to come and participate and encourage them. We captioned it ‘Youth Ego Swallow – YES’. We want to tell them that we say yes to them, and if they say yes to us, there is no limit to where they can go,” the cleric said.

Kumuyi praised the governor for always reaching out to young people and engaging them in his administration.

He appreciated the governor’s politics and his way of handling things, describing AbdulRazaq as a leader for the grassroots and for everyone.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the visit was part of the activities announcing the Deeper Life Ministry’s ‘Youth Ego Swallow (YES)’ program in Ilorin.

The program aims to engage and mentor young people to realize their enormous development potential.
