Local youth are invited to a special dance workshop; community guest on Saturday morning show – Kiowa County Signal

Special at Signal

“Dance Greensburg” is a new 2-day event showcasing the collective creative energies of professional dance instructors Cheyla Clawson and Mina Estrada from Wichita. Residents of Kiowa County are invited to participate in creative experiences of expressive movement and learning on July 22 and 23.

Local youth ages 10 and up are invited to participate in a dance workshop at the Greensburg Recreation Center from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The young people will work in groups until 11:30 a.m. and then walk to the senior center where they will be treated to a hamburger lunch with the seniors. After lunch, they will show the elders what they have learned and participate with the elders in a movement experience that expresses the memories of life that we have captured in our being.

Friday night adults are invited to attend “Our Kind of Party” at the Twilight Theater from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Music, movement and trivia will be on the menu, along with concessions and drinks.

On Saturday morning at 8 a.m., attendees will stand atop the scenic viewing area surrounding the interior of the Great Well, enjoying the music and expressive movement. Come discover the connection between your body and yourself. Immediately afterwards at 9:30 a.m., the community is invited to bring their lawn chairs onto the lawn of the 5.4.7 Arts Center to enjoy a guided improvisational movement experience.

A free screening of the internationally acclaimed film “She Moved The Prairie” by Cheyla Clawon will be shown at the Twilight Theater at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday the 23rd. An artist talk by Cheyla will follow the film and close the Dance Greensburg weekend.

Plan now to attend any or all of these free events offered by 5.4.7 Arts Center, The Big Well. Greensburg Tourism, Kiowa County Media Center, Twilight Theatre, Greensburg Recreation and The Kiowa Senior Center.
