A group of creative students from Murrumbidgee Regional High School (MRHS) had the opportunity to learn from industry experts in an intensive songwriting workshop. The SongMakers workshop is a follow-up with the same group of students who participated in a session in June 2021, offering them the opportunity to stay in touch with mentors and continue their budding songwriting and music production activities. at school. Producer and mentor Taka Perry said it was “great” to come back to MRHS and see how much the students have grown in their musical skills. “There were 5 bands this time around and again we made some really great songs – about culture, love, learning from mistakes, even Covid,” Mr Perry said. “As always in these workshops, the topics the students choose to write about are really heartfelt and cover a lot of ground.” READ MORE Musician and rapper A.GIRL also served as a mentor during the two-day workshop, saying it was a good way to help students connect with those around them. “It’s important for me to work with young people and share how much I love to sing and write songs,” said A.GIRL. “Making songs and singing them is so empowering, for everyone. And there were INCREDIBLE singers in that band. “Wow. It can be difficult to see a career in music, so it’s great for students to be able to connect with people like us in the industry who do.
