Youth Animation Workshop at Midcoast School of Technology – Knox County VillageSoup

ROCKLAND — The Maine Center for Contemporary Art (CMCA) presents an animation workshop on Saturday, November 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. for students in grades 5 through 8 at the Midcoast School of Technology.

Discover the world of animation during a workshop with educator and artist Brandon Soards. This three-hour session will explore the fundamentals of animation through historical techniques. Students will create hand-drawn 2D animations using frame-by-frame and keyframe processes similar to those created in the early 20th century. These basic animation processes will prove timeless, as the same principles are essential to modern digital animation.

The cost is $80 for non-members and $75 for members. The deadline for registration is Friday, November 11 at noon.

All levels welcome. Please note that attendees are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the Midcoast School of Technology, 1 main street.

Soards, a Midcoast-area native, grew up immersed in digital imaging on the campus of the Center for Creative Imaging. This nurtured a career in animation, video production, programming and graphic design. As a designer and educator, her greatest concern is to help strengthen Maine communities.
